Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 July 2026
1. Who we are
Soundlane (soundlane.app) is a browser rhythm game for real guitar, operated by Rinat Galiev (“we”, “us”). For anything related to this policy, contact [email protected]. This policy covers the Soundlane website and the web app at soundlane.app.
2. The short version
- No account, no sign-up — we never ask for your name or email.
- Your microphone audio is processed entirely on your device and is never recorded, stored or uploaded.
- Your songs, scores and settings live in your browser, not on our servers.
- We use cookieless, anonymous product analytics hosted in the European Union.
- No advertising, no cross-site tracking, and we never sell data.
3. Microphone and your audio
Soundlane asks for microphone access so it can hear your guitar. All sound analysis — pitch detection and note recognition, including the neural network — runs locally in your browser. Your audio is never recorded, never stored and never transmitted anywhere. You can revoke microphone access at any time in your browser settings.
4. Your songs, scores and settings
Tabs you import, along with your settings and progress, are stored locally in your browser’s storage on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers, and we cannot see them. Clearing your browser’s site data for soundlane.app deletes them.
5. Analytics
To understand how Soundlane is used and to fix bugs, we use PostHog, configured in its cookieless mode and hosted on servers in the European Union. What this means:
- No cookies are set. A random identifier is kept in your tab’s session storage and disappears when you close the tab — we cannot recognise you across visits.
- We collect anonymous usage events (e.g. “page viewed”, “song started”), your browser and device type, the coarse region derived from your IP address, and technical error reports.
- We never collect your audio, your imported files, or anything that identifies you personally.
The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the product (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Analytics data is kept only as long as needed for these purposes.
6. Hosting and technical data
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.). Like any web host, Cloudflare processes IP addresses and technical request data to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Instrument sounds used for playback are fetched from GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.); such a request reveals your IP address to that host, as with any web resource.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Because we deliberately hold no data that identifies you, we usually cannot link any analytics event to you — but if you have any question or request, write to [email protected] and we will help.
8. Children
Soundlane is suitable for general audiences and knowingly collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes — for example when we introduce optional accounts — we will publish the new version here with an updated date.
